Richard Williams was born in 1933 in Canada. Williams has animated many films in his 50+ year career in animation! This includes The Pink Panther, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, A Christmas Carol and Ziggy's Gift! He is also the author of 'The Animators Survival Kit', the book that gives the principles of animation linking the art of hand-drawn animation and the newer computer animation ways. Williams was influenced from a young age when his mother took him to see Snow White (1937), this sparked his interest into animated features. Since his career began, Williams has been awarded 3 Oscars- two of which were awarded for Who Framed Roger Rabbit- and 3 British Academy Awards, alongside this he has also been nominated for over 250 international film awards!
Williams has been referred to as 'one of the true innovators and serves as the link between the Golden Age of animation by hand and the new computer animation successes' (http://www.theanimatorssurvivalkit.com/biography.html, 2008). Which can definitely be agreed just by looking at where his work began, and where his work has gone! Williams has a truly creative mind when it comes to animating and breaks it down incredibly in his book The Animators Survival Kit.
Not only does he animate and write books, but in the 1990's Williams also travelled to different animation studios such as Disney, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks and Pixar, giving his own special Masterclasses of animation! (This was then followed up with his Animators Survival Kit book) He has truly been a huge part of animation history.
