Today I looked at the principles of animation by testing out different spacing between the frames of coins. Firstly, a simple side to side animation where the coin travels smoothly at a single speed from one side to the other. Then, testing out speed and spacing with the second animation, bigger spacing causes more speed, smaller spacing causes the movement to seem slower even though it is the same amount of frames.

FRAMES: Evenly spaced vs Faster sequence
After the basics of movement and speeds, we looked at the speed with different movements on an arch, like a pendulum. From the screenshot below we can see how the frames are spread out in the middle to allow an illusion of speed with the bend in the arch. On the left we can see the wrong way to do this, without a bend in doesn't look like a fluid movement that the pendulum allows us to see.

FRAMES: Wrong sequence and Correct sequence |
This was a slightly tedious task, but worth learning the principles of how things work in animating so that down the road things will have a much more fluid and accurate profile of movement. Regardless, it was enjoyable and despite all the glitches face I am happy that my outcome shows the different movements using timing and spacing!
